DESCRIPTION:
RIOJA, SPAIN
Tasting Notes
Aromas of red and black fruit (cherry, blackberry),pencil lead, spice box. Sweetly fruited, balanced wine with excellent depth and length.
Producer's Notes
Telmo Rodriguez is a wine superhero. He travels the back roads of Spain by car, rescuing ancient varietals from extinction, restoring overgrown vineyards, and reinvigorating long-forgotten styles of Spanish wine.
This entry-level Rioja (pr. 'El Zed' in Canada) is a nod to Rioja of the 1920s. No American oak here,or even French for that matter, just exuberant Rioja fruit in all its purity.
Reviews & Accolades
(2016 vintage)
91 point: This is super expressive, from an unusual year that delivered quality and quantity, a rare combination. It's a superb, characterful, approachable Rioja with a completely different profile, fruit-driven with notes of licorice and an absence of wood, more in the style of a wine from Marcel Lapierre than what most people expect from a label that says Rioja. Superb value too. (Luis Gutiérrez, Robert Parker Wine Advocate, February 2018)
